I know you’re pumped. Most, if not all, of the designers have released their collections for the fall and you are bouncing off the walls. I know I am, but no matter how much we want the fall weather and outerwear to come we must restrain ourselves just a little bit. There’s still a ton more of summer to go.

Here are some things that can help you cope with the stifling heat:

Plaid

$90, http://www.rooneyshop.com

When I am totally down in the dumps depressed and I’m broke, I write about my feelings. But if I have some money to spend, I go out and buy something plaid. I can never have too much plaid.

If I’m not feeling what I’m wearing and all else seems to fail, I simply throw on a cool plaid or gingham button shirt with my shorts and already I start to look better.

A slim shirt, like this one above from Gitman Vintage, can make you look incredibly stylish without even trying, and the right color will make you pop out from everyone else around.

Canvas Sneaks

Sperry Topsiders: $50, http://www.rooneyshop.com

The incorporation of canvas into footwear is the perfect touch for your wardrobe. Summer is all about relaxation and leisure, and a canvas-made shoe gives you that cool, I-don’t-give-a-damn feel.

One little styling tip to go along with this buy – say no to socks.

I know the intense heat and humidity can sometimes make your feet insanely sweaty and uncomfortable, but it’s worth it. Plus, there are tons of sprays to help maintain dryness. Socks are so last season.

Bags

Filson Duffel: $399, http://www.rooneyshop.com

Keeping in mind my fetish for bags, you should take whatever I state here with a grain of salt. If you’re like me, however, and are always looking for the next largest weekender and the next cool-looking tote, then you’ll get a kick out of the next few graphs.

I love obnoxiously large bags and (like my shoes) I like canvas totes and messengers. So when I came across this Filson Canvas Duffel, I almost pittled with excitement. There’s nothing better than walking down the streets of Manhattan clutching the handles of a voluminous weekender or duffel and catching the eyes of all the pedestrians strolling by.

Even if I don’t have much to bring with me when I leave my apartment, I stuff a bag with magazines, books, my camera, my laptop even, just so I can have some randomness to fill out the shape.
